Southern Sudan: Minister shot and killed

On 9 February, Jimmy Lemi Milla, the South Sudan Minister of Cooperatives and Rural Development, and his bodyguard were shot and killed in the minister’s office in Juba, South Sudan. The shooting was not believed to be politically motivated. The Southern Sudan Action Network on Small Arms said, “We in SSANSA and the entire civil society sector join families and friends in mourning. This reminds us of the gun culture and the highly militarised psyche of civilians which has to end for building of the just born nation take a peaceful course”. More
