Report on small arms and insecurity in DR Congo

A new report on the connection between small arms and perceptions of insecurity among the population in Eastern DR Congo was launched in Kinshasa on 22 June. Representatives from the National Commission on small arms were present at the launch. It was written by Groupe de Recherche et d'Information sur la Paix (GRIP) and the Bonn International Center for Conversion (BICC) in coordination with UNDP. More than 10 000 people were interviewed for the report, which includes an overview of the conflict in DRC, existing laws and structures, an overview of the different armed groups and their weapons.
