Israel: Newly proposed law threatens efforts to control small arms in security industry

In Israel, a newly proposed ‘Security Services Law’ threatens an existing, though un-enforced, clause of the Firearms Law that restricts security guards from taking their guns home. If the proposed law were implemented it would automatically allow security guards to take their guns home whilst off-duty.

IANSA members at the Gun Free Kitchen Tables Coalition have written to the Ministry of Public Security to protest against the new law and warned against further weakening of mechanisms to control guns possessed by those in the security guard industry. The Coalition is engaging decision-makers in a concentrated preventive effort and is highlighting the serious and direct danger the law presents to those who live with security guards, particularly women.
