Increase in illegal possession of firearms in Mexico

According to statistics released by private security firm Grupo Multisistema de Seguridad Industrial, in accordance with those of the National Center for Criminal Investigation, in the last 10 years illegal possession of high powered firearms has increased by 1000% in Mexico. They attribute this to the flow of arms from the US. They also reveal that 75% of homicides committed in the first two months of 2012 were committed with firearms, and estimate that “there has been a significant increase in the malicious use of firearms in all criminal acts because there has been a greater influx of weapons".
