Libya: Graffiti contest promotes disarmament

On 19 November, Handicap International held the first ever formal graffiti contest in Benghazi, Libya to raise awareness about the dangers of using guns, which are widespread in Libya as a result of fighting between government and rebel forces.Mariam Elmehdawi, one of the organisers said, "Sixty-three people have been killed or injured in one hospital in Benghazi from celebratory shooting in the five days which followed Al Qathafi's death alone". Many contestants focused on the growing number of accidents with guns in the home. The winning piece will be printed on posters and displayed on billboards throughout Benghazi, Ajdabiyah and Eastern Libya as part of the campaign.
