Senegal: IANSA member launches education campaign for ‘Children Peacemakers’

In Senegal, IANSA member MALAO is launching the second phase of the educational project “Children peacemakers” in the Casamance region, where an armed conflict has been on going for the past 30 years. Funded by UNICEF, the project focuses on protecting children during armed conflict by raising awareness about arms control. In the coming months, MALAO will launch a series of events in local communities to inform about national legislation on small arms, the ECOWAS Convention on small arms, and the Arms Trade Treaty. One participant in an earlier phase of the project said, "children are tomorrow's citizens. They are carriers of information. When they are trained and sensitized on small arms, non-violence, children's rights and peace, they will help MALAO to carry these messages further".
