Uganda: Training of trainers on gender and small arms

On 7 September, National Focal Points and civil society representatives from Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda completed a month-long training of trainers on gender and small arms in Kampala, Uganda. It was organised by the Eastern African Sub-regional Support Initiative for the Advancement of Women (EASSI) to create awareness on the gender dimensions of small arms, and to develop the capacities of participants to conduct their own trainings on the issues. The programme covered topics such as how to incorporate gender mainstreaming in small arms programmes; UN instruments on women peace and security; monitoring and evaluation; communication skills; and awareness on the UN small arms process and the Arms Trade Treaty. It also included a practical field experience where the participants trained members of various task forces of the Uganda National Focal Point on small arms.
