Southern Sudan: Listeners discuss armed violence in Radio show

In Southern Sudan, members of the public participated in a series of radio debates to discuss solutions to “Gun violence as an obstacle to socio- economic progress in the new Republic of South Sudan”. Southern Sudan Action Network on Small Arms (SSANSA) hosted the debates, which were broadcast on Liberty FM on 16 June and Bakhita FM on 18th June. Listeners raised the need for viable procedures for civilian disarmament and the prospects of appealing to the leadership of the new republic of South Sudan to support an Arms Trade Treaty. The show also provided a platform for survivors of gun violence to share their stories and many citizens’ shared their experiences. More here.
