News from DAKS, Germany

The most recent DAKS newsletter includes information about Germany’s largest arms producers, and information about a new campaign launched in Germany in May 2011, which is supported by a broad range of anti-armament groups, including the German division of Pax Christi, IPPNW and the RüstungsInformationsBüro (Bureau of Armament Information). It targets Germany’s steadily growing arms exports to regimes that are considered 'un-democratic', and campaigns for a reform of the Constitution and other legal instruments on the law relating to the export of arms. It also celebrates that Jürgen Grässlin, a DAKS spokesperson, and the Informationsstelle Militarisierung (Militarisation Observatory) will be honoured with the Peace Price of Aachen 2011, which marks the second occasion this year when German initiatives critical of the arms trade were recognised for their contribution towards peace.
