Burundi: Working together to reduce gun violence

“Forming coalitions to say no to gun violence: what is everyone’s role?” was the topic of discussion at a conference organised by REBAL-BUANSA and the Permanent National Commission against the proliferation of SALW (CNAP) in Burundi on 17 June. A number of high-ranking officials spoke at the event, including Senator and former President of Burundi Sylvestre Ntibantunganya, Mister Jean-Marie Vianney Kavumbagu of the Independent National Commission on Human Rights, and Mister Zénon Ndabaneze of the National Commission on small arms. The debate concluded with a variety of recommendations to the government, political parties, different religious faiths, civil society, media and the international community on how they can work together to reduce gun violence in Burundi.
