Namibia: Regional meeting on small arms in Southern Africa

On 14-15 March, IANSA members and Secretariat staff participated in a regional seminar on the joint project by the European Union and the African Union titled “The Fight Against the Illicit Accumulation and Trafficking of Firearms in Africa” in Windhoek, Namibia. The meeting was organised by the Regional Centre on Small Arms (RECSA) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), in partnership with the government of Namibia and the Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Co-operation (SARPCCO). Participants agreed on a set of priorities for the implementation of the project which included strengthening civil society organisations in the region and devoting resources to develop systems for marking and tracing of small arms. More information about this project was included in the IANSA Africa Update in January this year.
