International Youth Day in Nigeria

In Nigeria, more than 800 young people and fifteen media organisations attended an event to mark International Youth Day on 12 August. Youth Enhancement Organisation (YEO) led the event which focused on raising awareness about the negative effects of illegal arms in society. During a press conference, Obinna Egbuka, President of YEO urged the UN to take action to end the irresponsible trade in conventional weapons. He said “Young people are adversely affected as agents or victims of this dastardly act which is a matter of life and death for people who live in areas affected by gun violence”. He also called for a strong, ‘bullet-proof’ Arms Trade Treaty.
