Costa Rica ‘A Nation for Peace’

A new website has been launched where people are encouraged to become virtual citizens of Costa Rica, a country with no army. The initiative is part of a global campaign for disarmament, calling for states to redirect 10% of their military expenditure to the promotion and achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. It is led by Religions for Peace and the Arias Foundation for Peace and Human Progress, and supported by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, and former president of Costa Rica and Nobel Peace Price winner Dr Oscar Arias Sanchez.
