Around 14,000 people remain homeless in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, weeks after a munitions depot exploded, killing 223 people, wounding 2,500 and destroying large parts of the city.

This article was written by Félix Kokou Aklavon, member of the International Advisory Council (IAC) and the Togolese Action Network on Small Arms (RASALT) for the Small Arms Monitor during the preparatory committee for the 2012 Review Conference on the UN Programme of Action on Small Arms (PoA).

In West Africa, activities have been organised by several national networks that are members of WAANSA, the West African Action Network on Small Arms.

This brief includes a report from a course on small arms and border security management took place from the 14-25 of March 2010, as well as an analysis of the conflict in Cote d'Ivoire and it's implications for the proliferation of small arms in the West African region.
