More than $2.2bn worth of arms and ammunition have been imported since 2000 to countries operating under arms embargoes, according to the new report “The Devil is in the Detail”  by Oxfam International.

The trial against arms broker Viktor Bout begins in New York, US, on 11 October. Bout was arrested in 2008 for trying to sell arms to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia.

In France, members of the Control Arms Campaign, including Secours Catholique-Caritas, CCFD-Terre Solidarity, Amnesty International France and Oxfam France have issued a press release demanding that transparency is guaranteed in an ATT.

At least 12,200 civilians died in Iraq, in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Somalia in 2010 as a direct result of armed conflict, according to a new report by Oxfam.
